When you hear the word “antique,” you automatically imagine furniture, jewelry, or other non-living objects. But did you know that there is also an antique rose? Antique roses are those that have been grown more than a hundred of years ago. Shakespeare wrote about roses in some of his plays and sonnets. He used the word ‘eglantine’ to refer to the rose found in Europe that smells good and has pink petals.
You can buy antique roses form rose emporiums. They sell almost all kinds of roses, including these old roses. And when you buy some for your rose garden, you have to know how to care for an antique rose. Below are some tips on how to care for an antique rose.
  • You should place the antique rose in a location with enough sunlight. Antique roses need sunlight, especially in the morning. You should also give them enough space for proper air circulation and growth. For the soil, it is important to prepare it well before planting your antique roses. You can use a tiller if you want to have endless rows of antique roses in your garden. Of course, you should only use rich soil with proper drainage where plants can grow well. And to further improve the roses’ growth, you should use organic fertilizer.
  • Another tip on how to care for an antique rose is to prepare the garden. You can prepare the area in summer or spring. Although there are some varieties of roses that can withstand winter, you should not plant your rose seeds or seedlings when the weather is too cold.
  • Antique roses should be soaked in water once in a week. Soak it with water overnight or for several hours. Make sure that the ground is deeply saturated with water.
  • Fortunately, antique roses are resistant to diseases. But you should still keep an eye on insects and other types of pests. Pruning is also good but you should do it gently.
